SPL Transient Designer: +3 to Attack

Sound Performance Lab makes a great little plug-in called Transient Designer that gets quite a bit of use around CCM.  Transient Designer uses two parameters, Attack and Sustain, to give your track that little extra touch of magic to make it stand out and be heard.  When used subtly, it can lift a dull guitar tone, allow the bass line to cut through the mix, or give drums more snap, crackle and pop.

It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what the plug-in does.  It takes a trained ear to detect the minute alterations Transient Designer makes, but the result is unmistakable.  If your track lacks sparkle, consider putting Transient Designer to work.  Better yet, bring your tracks in and have our professionals spice it up!

Pro tip: extreme Transient Designer settings can be used to dramatically affect the way a set of drum tracks work together.  Use it to pull out the cymbals in your overheads and beef up your snare and bass before adding in any additional EQ or ‘verb.
