Quick Tip Using Neumann U87 Microphone
Quick Tip Using Neumann U87 Microphone-
When using the Neumann U87, many engineers will invert the microphone so that it is hanging upside down as the vocalist is recording. However, while this may be standard practice to limit excessive bass response achieving a crisp and clean vocal, I find that the proximity effect is sometimes desirable in my recordings to create a smoother, warmer and more round vocal recording. In post mixing, I would rather carve out some unwanted bass than to not have any to begin with… So long as it’s not overdone and it fits the track.
Now go hear for yourself!
