Quick Tracking Tip

Quick Tracking Tip

In a recent session I encountered the situation of matching an old recording. In this case a client wanted to redo a couple parts while keeping the majority of the original take. Being that we recorded this several months ago, in the past (especially when using hard gear), this type of thing would have presented all kinds of possible problems in mic and pre-amp selections, settings, recording conditions, etc… However, nowadays with computers to immediately retrieve information, I have found it easy to negotiate this problem by listing my particular settings and configurations in the “comment box” of the track affected. In this way, I can at least know what hardware I was using and the pre settings that were enabled when I recorded. It’s kind of a tough regiment to get into on a consistent basis, but one day it will be worth it and make all the difference… or at least 30 minutes.
