Neumann TLM-103…A Great Vocal Mic
There is no doubt that the human voice is one of the most difficult of all instruments to record. Even after all these years I am still amazed at how different the same voice sounds through different mics.
That is why it is extremely important to make the right choice at the beginning of a project with regard to your main vocal microphone.
Here at CCM, we choose the correct microphone for vocals in a variety of ways. As for myself, I set up a variety of microphones before a vocal session and I will record a little bit of the vocalist with each mic. Then we will listen together to determine what sound is the best fit for the project.
More and more these days I seem to be turning to the Neumann TLM-103 especially for male vocal work in many genres including hip-hop, R&B, and voice over work. The proximity effect for this particular mic is great for accentuating the low end components that are desired in these particular genres.
