The drums are the foundation of many different types of music including pop. rock, and hip hop. Consequently, the sound of the drums can make or break a recording, and the art of recording a drum kit has been around virtually as long as recorded music.

Last month I was in New York City for the AES convention and had a chance to check out some great gear as well as seeing some old friends and making some new ones.

We recently had Denver based Hip Hop group Lost Soulz  at the studio, continuing work on their current untitled album project.  Group members Ya Hood, DB, and BP were all at CCM as we tracked some vocals and began mixdown work on thier up coming hit, “We On Fire.”

There is no doubt that the human voice is one of the most difficult of all instruments to record.  Even after all these years I am still amazed at how different the same voice sounds through different mics.
